As a sign of its continuing commitment to help protect and preserve the environment, NutriAsia’s Marilao Plant sent several volunteers from its Environment and Sustainability Squad (ESS) led by EHS Officers Mark Marquez and Audine Maristela and National Employee Council Chair Butch Moguies to participate in the recent river clean-up activity last August 14, 2025, in Barangay Camalig, Meycauayan City, Bulacan.
The clean-up was organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environment Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) Region 3, in partnership with the city government, under the Adopt-a-Waterbody Program for Meycauayan River (AWP). This initiative aims to restore the ecological health of the 12.9-kilometer river, which drains into Manila Bay and was ranked 5th in the global list of plastic-emitting rivers in 2021.
Launched in 2024, the AWP for Meycauayan River has brought together a wide coalition of stakeholders—including the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), DENR-EMB, 26 barangays, and 47 companies, including NutriAsia, makers of the Philippines’ best condiments and sauces —to improve water quality and rehabilitate the river.
NutriAsia ESS volunteers joined local officials, community members, and other partners in removing waste and debris from the river, reinforcing the importance of shared responsibility and collective action in protecting the environment.
“NutriAsia is proud to be part of this important undertaking to protect our waterways,” said Sheila Marie Ramos, EHS Officer and ESS Team Lead at NutriAsia Cabuyao. “Spending time with our fellow stakeholders here in Bulacan is a meaningful way to show our collective resolve to preserve the environment. From what we have seen today, there is still so much to do. We look forward to actively participating in more initiatives under the AWP to help restore vital ecosystems like the Meycauayan River.”
