NutriAsia takes part in DENR’s ‘Refill Revolution’

NutriAsia, the country’s top condiments maker, successfully participated in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)’s “Refill Revolution” campaign held in the town of Guiguinto, Bulacan in April of this year.

When the Refill Revolution kicked off in Guiguinto, NutriAsia was one of the country’s retailers and manufacturers that rallied behind this remarkable initiative that aims to reduce plastic consumption by encouraging households to recycle plastic containers.

Held in cooperation with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) Region 3, the campaign kicked off last April 27 at Guiguinto’s municipal gym.

Scores of residents from Guiguinto’s 14 barangays trooped to the Municipal Athletic and Cultural Center to have their own plastic bottles and containers refilled with kitchen condiments like soy sauce, vinegar, and cooking oil—and even laundry aids like liquid detergent—at lower costs.

Clad in green shirts in celebration of Earth Month and in support of Guiguinto’s “Green Day,” volunteers from NutriAsia set up its own refilling booth and assisted legions of enthusiastic residents in lining up for their well-loved Datu Puti soy sauce and vinegar, which were sold for only P10 per liter. The proceeds were donated to the DENR to continue their environmental clean-up efforts.

In her keynote message at the event, DENR-EMB Region 3 Director Lormelyn Claudio extended her gratitude to NutriAsia and other partners for making the event possible and for heightening awareness on the reuse of bulk plastic containers.

“People ask me how we intend to sustain this initiative, and I always answer: It will need partners, both from the private and the public sectors, and, of course, it will need the cooperation of the citizenry. It’s high time that we adopt the discipline of reusing and recycling plastics. Let us all commit to be good caretakers of the environment,” Claudio said.

Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino Sy Alvarado, who also graced the event, promised that “this is just the start of a revolution.” He announced that refilling events will be held in other places in the region within this year.

In his message, Guiguinto Mayor and League of Municipalities of the Philippine (LMP)-Bulacan president Ambrosio “Boy” Cruz summarized the Refill Revolution in a catchphrase: “Mura na, maka-kalikasan pa.”

“The best incentive in a program is its advantage or contribution to a greater whole—in this case, our very home, our environment. The Refill Revolution is a real program that is part of a genuine cause with a real impact on our lives. After this launch and for the rest of our days, I hope we can all wholeheartedly say that ‘I am part of a revolution,’ ” Cruz said.
